Summer 2018 Transit Service Changes

Summer 2018 transit service changes that will start on Sunday, June 24. These changes are part of OC Transpo’s regular schedule adjustments, which take place four times a year – April, June, September, and December.

Changes in the ward:

  • Route 80 – The peak-period trips on this route that currently extend east beyond Tunney’s Pasture Station to/from LeBreton Station or Mackenzie King Bridge will be changed so that all trips on Route 80 start and end at Tunney’s Pasture Station, for a consistent connection point with O-Train Line 1. Until O-Train Line 1 opens later this year, customers who now travel to or from points east of Tunney’s Pasture Station will transfer to/from the frequent service provided by Routes 61, 62, 63, 64, 86, 87, 91, 94, 95, 97, 98, and other routes. This change will also improve the reliability of service on Route 80 because buses will no longer be operating through the congested streets of downtown.
  • Route 86C – The “86C” trips to and from Colonnade Road and Viewmount Drive on Route 86 will be renumbered as Route 89 and will start and end at Tunney’s Pasture Station, where connections will be available to O-Train Line 1 and to other bus routes. Until O-Train Line 1 opens later this year, customers who now travel between points south of Meadowlands Drive and points east of Tunney’s Pasture Station will transfer to/from the frequent service provided by Routes 61, 62, 86, 87, 91, 94, 95, 97, 98, and other routes. This change will also improve the reliability of service on new Route 89 because buses will no longer be operating through the congested streets of downtown.
  • Route 86B – The “86B” trips to and from Baseline Station and Meadowlands Drive on Route 86 will be renumbered as Route 86 with no alphabetic suffix.
  • Route 174 – The limited Saturday service on this route will be reduced to operate with one morning trip to Baseline Station and one afternoon trip to Knoxdale Road, due to low ridership on the other Saturday trips. These trips will now be designated as part of the schedule of Route 82.

Seasonal Service Changes:

  • Seasonal Capacity Adjustments – Every year, ridership declines across the system as the school year ends, as customers take summer vacations, and as the weather improves, allowing easier cycling and walking. The frequency of service is adjusted to reflect these changes in ridership, and the capacity provided remains sufficient to carry the number of customers travelling during this time. This summer, the number of trips is being reduced on Routes 12, 19, 30, 33, 44, 61, 63, 64, 82, 85, 87, 88, 91, 94, 95, 97, 98, 104, 105, 111, 129, 235, 236, and 272. The special school trips on regular routes and the 600-series school routes will also be removed for the summer, with service to the English-language school boards maintained until Tuesday June 26 (Ottawa-Carleton District School Board) or Wednesday June 27 (Ottawa Catholic School Board) to accommodate the end of their exam period. On most routes, the pre-summer service level will return in September.

Holidays and Special Events

  • Canada Day – On Sunday, July 1, service will be free for all customers. A special Canada Day service will operate, with increased service levels to support the higher ridership levels on that day. Extra trips will operate on Routes 6, 7, 11, 12, 44, 61, 62, 85, 86, 87, 91, 94, 95, 97, 98, and O-Train Line 2, the Trillium Line. Extra service will also be added in the later evening to Rapid, Frequent and many Local routes, including Routes 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 24, 26, 28, 44, 48, 49, 63, 80, 82, 83, 85, 86, 87, 88, 91, 92, 93, 96, 98, 99, 106, 111, 112, 114, 122, 129, 130, 131, 134, 135, 143, 152, 153, 168, 170, 177, 197, and O-Train Line 2.
